Initial Evaluation

Typically, initial evaluations will last 50-70 minutes. Your therapist will spend significant time talking with you and educating you on your condition. We will also perform manual therapy and/or dry needling to help you make immediate progress. We will also prescribe therapeutic exercise to help you maintain gains following hands-on intervention. We will usually end treatment with modalities such as moist heat.

Follow-Up Visits

Typically, follow-up visits will last 45-60 minutes. This will include further investigation to your progress, hands-on intervention as well as prescribed exercise followed by modalities such as moist heat.
Most MS Physical Therapy patients will attend therapy 2-3 times per week for 4-6 weeks. However, we will do everything we can in order to help you return to your life you have always wanted to live as soon as possible.

Athletic Wear: Consider wearing loose-fitting, moisture-wicking athletic clothing, such as a T-shirt, tank top, or moisture-wicking top, along with shorts or yoga pants. These types of clothing are often ideal as they allow your therapist to easily access and evaluate the affected area and provide you with a wide range of motion.

Footwear: Choose supportive, comfortable athletic shoes with good arch support and cushioning, especially if you’re performing weight-bearing exercises. Proper footwear can help reduce the risk of injury and provide stability.

Understanding Your Insurance Coverage

At MS Physical Therapy, we understand the importance of accessing quality care without financial stress. We're committed to making your experience with us as seamless as possible, including navigating insurance coverage.

What Insurance Plans Do We Accept?

We accept a wide range of insurance plans to ensure our patients have access to the care they need. Our team is experienced in working with various insurance providers, including but not limited to:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Medicare
  • Aetna
  • Tricare

If you don’t see your insurance provider listed, please reach out to our team. We may still be able to accommodate your needs.

Before your first visit, our team will help verify your insurance coverage. This process involves confirming your benefits, coverage limits, copays, deductibles, and any prior authorization requirements.
Insurance plans can be complex, and each plan may have different coverage for physical therapy services. Our team will assist in explaining your benefits, making sure you understand what is covered under your plan, and any potential out-of-pocket expenses.
In the event that we are not in-network with your insurance provider, you may still have out-of-network benefits that could apply. We can help explain these benefits and work with you to maximize your coverage.
For any services not covered by insurance or for patients without insurance, we offer flexible payment options. These can include self-pay rates, payment plans, care credit and other arrangements to ensure you receive the care you need.

Overview of How Insurance Works for Physical Therapy:

Before you begin physical therapy, it’s essential to verify your insurance coverage. This can be done by contacting your insurance provider or checking your insurance plan documents. You’ll want to know what services are covered, any limitations or restrictions, and whether you need a referral or preauthorization.
In Mississippi, in order to receive physical therapy services, a referral from your physician is required. This can be from any physician (MD or DO), nurse practitioner, physician’s assistant, dentist, and chiropractor.
Most insurance plans have deductibles that you must meet before the insurance coverage kicks in. You’ll need to pay for your physical therapy services out of pocket until you reach your deductible.

After meeting your deductible, you may still be responsible for co-payments or co-insurance, which are a percentage of the cost of each visit. The amount you pay will depend on your specific insurance plan.

Insurance plans may have limits on the number of physical therapy sessions or a maximum coverage amount per year. It’s important to be aware of these limitations.
Insurance providers typically cover physical therapy when it’s deemed medically necessary to treat a specific condition or injury. Your therapist will work with your healthcare provider to provide documentation supporting the medical necessity of the treatment.
For certain types of physical therapy or extensive treatment plans, your insurance provider may require preauthorization. This means your healthcare provider must obtain approval from the insurance company before you can receive the recommended services.
The physical therapy provider will bill your insurance company directly for their services. You may receive an explanation of benefits (EOB) from your insurance company explaining what was covered and what you owe. Make sure to review these documents carefully.
If your insurance company denies coverage for physical therapy, you have the right to appeal the decision. Your healthcare provider can assist you in the appeals process.
It’s crucial to thoroughly understand your insurance coverage and communicate with both your healthcare provider and insurance company to ensure you receive the necessary physical therapy services without unexpected financial burdens. Additionally, keep records of all communications and documents related to your insurance coverage and physical therapy treatment for reference.
